Eagles' Westbrook could miss 2 games

PHILADELPHIA - Eagles running back Brian Westbrook has a broken rib and could miss up to two games, an NFL source said Tuesday night.

Westbrook, Philadelphia's leading rusher, could miss Sunday's game against Baltimore and the team's Nov. 7 game at the Pittsburgh Steelers, the source said on the condition of anonymity.

The Eagles refused to comment. Coach Andy Reid is expected to address the injury today.

Westbrook was hurt in the fourth quarter of the Eagles' 34-31 overtime victory against Cleveland. He was replaced against the Browns by Dorsey Levens, who had 48 yards on seven carries as Philadelphia won it sixth straight game.

Westbrook leads the Eagles with 458 yards rushing. He also had 31 catches for 249 yards.

COWBOYS: Sounding despondent at times, Bill Parcells said he is guilty of mismanaging the Dallas Cowboys and vowed to reassess his approach after admitting that he has not coached up to his lofty standards this season. "It's my fault," Parcells said, referring to his team's disappointing 2-4 start. "I take full responsibility for it."

Parcells declined to say what changes he will make or whether they will be in place for Sunday's home game against Detroit (4-2).

Parcells did rule out one change. He said he would continue to start 40-year-old Vinny Testaverde at quarterback rather than play second-year player Tony Romo or rookie Drew Henson.

LABOR NEGOTIATIONS: The NFL players union wants major additions to the revenue pool used to determine player salaries, making negotiations to extend the current contract more difficult.

Gene Upshaw, the union's executive director, will meet in Detroit this week with owners on the league's management council. He is expected to outline a proposal that would add revenues to the television and base ticket sales now used to determine player salaries.

The contract is not due to run out until after the 2007 season.

PANTHERS: Carolina on Tuesday signed running back Brandon Bennett to replace DeShaun Foster, who was placed on injured reserve after breaking his collarbone on Oct. 10. Bennett has played in 74 games in five seasons, all with the Cincinnati Bengals.

PACKERS: The wife of Green Bay quarterback Brett Favre was diagnosed with breast cancer. Deanna Favre recently was released from Sloan Kettering Cancer Center after undergoing a lumpectomy, Bonita Favre, Brett's mother, told The Sun Herald on Monday. Deanna Favre will undergo chemotherapy and is expected to make a full recovery, Bonita Favre said.
