McNair reinjures chest, leaves game

Oft-injured quarterback Steve McNair left Tennessee's 20-3 loss to the Minnesota Vikings on Sunday after aggravating the bruised chest that kept him in the hospital for two nights last month.
"This is not going to heal in one or two weeks if I continue to go out there and play," McNair said. "I don't want to sit, but if I have to that's fine. We'll have to discuss that when we get to the evaluation. If I can't go out there and perform I'm not going to play."
McNair, replaced by Billy Volek, was hurt on the first play of the second quarter and finished 2-for-5 for 2 yards. He walked off the field with a grimace after lying on the turf for a few minutes.
On an incomplete pass, McNair was brought down by the Vikings' rush and apparently was hurt in the pile. He is scheduled for X-rays and an MRI today.
"I had a hard time breathing, and it spasmed up again," said McNair, who complained of stiffness and shortness of breath after the game. "As soon as I landed on the ground, I knew I was out."
McNair has battled a slew of injuries throughout his career with the Titans. He didn't play Oct.3 at San Diego after getting hurt in the fourth quarter the previous week against Jacksonville.
OTHER INJURIES: Randy Moss aggravated his hamstring injury and did not play in the second half of the Vikings' victory . . . Chiefs running back Priest Holmes already had four touchdowns before mildly spraining his ankle against Atlanta.
SWINGS: The 56 points by the Chiefs were 40 more than they scored last week in a 22-16 loss to Jacksonville . . . Green Bay, which gave up a franchise-worst 48 points at Lambeau to Tennessee two weeks ago, avoided its first 0-4 start at home since 1986 by beating Dallas 41-20 . . . Corey Dillon had 22 carries for 115 yards, the first 100-yard runner the Jets have allowed all season . . . The Lions' win over the Giants was their third straight on the road after losing a record 24 straight from 2001 through 2003.
QUOTABLE: "We're like 53 guys nailed up in a little box with no room to move and each guy's got to grab a hammer and start pounding to get us out." - Tennessee wide receiver Derrick Mason after the Titans fell to 2-5 with a 20-3 loss in Minnesota.
"Enough is enough. At some point you've got to draw a line in the sand and be a man about it." - Miami defensive end David Bowens after the Dolphins won their first game. Last week, Bowens said he expected the Dolphins to win their final 10 games.
