Bills' McGahee could make first start for ailing Henry
The Associated Press
ORCHARD PARK, N.Y. - Buffalo Bills running back Travis Henry missed his second straight practice Thursday, opening the possibility for Willis McGahee to get his first career start this weekend.
Henry has a left foot injury and is questionable to play when Buffalo hosts Miami on Sunday. He was walking with a limp and was wearing a sweatsuit while watching practice.
Coach Mike Mularkey said Wednesday he assumed Henry would be ready to play.
Even if Henry dresses Sunday, McGahee, a first-round pick in 2003, is expected to get more playing time because he's the healthier running back.
McGahee said Thursday he has not been told whether he'll start, and that the decision probably will come at game time.
RAIDERS: Coach Norv Turner still considers Jerry Rice a starter in Oakland's offense and plans to use the wide receiver Sunday against Denver. The 42-year-old Rice told the team he wants to be traded if he can't have a significant role, and he met with owner Al Davis on Wednesday night to discuss it.
"There's no news," Rice said. "We just talked football. We put two heads together and had a good talk."
DOLPHINS: Defensive end Chidi Ahanotu has left the team after complaining about a lack of playing time.
CARDINALS: Arizona released safety Dexter Jackson, who had been sidelined since training camp with a back injury. Jackson, the Super Bowl MVP with Tampa Bay two seasons ago, had not been able to participate in training camp and had been on the injured reserve list since early September.
REDSKINS: Washington kicker John Hall strained his right groin during practice Thursday, his third leg injury of the season. Hall will be held out of practice today and is questionable for Sunday's game against the Chicago Bears. Swedish kicker Ola Kimrin could be signed.
PACKERS: Wide receiver Robert Ferguson hurt his left ankle during a special teams period before the start of the two-hour practice Thursday and could miss Sunday's game.
Ferguson already was on the injury report this week as probable with a sore knee. The ankle injury was added to the report after practice Thursday, but Ferguson remained listed as probable for Sunday.
BEARS: Brian Urlacher, who had never missed a game in his four-year career before sitting out the past two with a sore hamstring, hopes to play Sunday against Washington.
Chicago's four-time Pro Bowl linebacker has been practicing this week and is eager to get back.
Urlacher said he's more pain-free this week than he was before the opener.
