Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback Chris Simms injured his left shoulder when he was sacked Sunday by Saints defensive lineman Will Smith.

The New Orleans rookie sacked Simms with 42 seconds left in the first quarter. Simms fumbled on the play, and Smith was penalized for unnecessary roughness.

The left-handed Simms, making his first NFL start in his second pro season, went to the sideline holding his arm. He was taken to the locker room to be checked. Brian Griese replaced Simms and led Tampa Bay to victory.

OTHER INJURIES: San Francisco All-Pro linebacker Julian Peterson tore his left Achilles' tendon in the first quarter of the 49ers' game against Arizona. ... Carolina running back DeShaun Foster broke his collarbone in the Panthers' game against Denver. ... St. Louis free safety Aeneas Williams left the Rams' game against Seattle because of a pinched nerve in his neck.

SIGNING: Ravens cornerback Chris McAlister has signed a seven-year contract that will enable Baltimore to keep the Pro Bowl player through 2010 and allow him to shed his unwanted tag as the team's franchise player. McAlister and the Ravens reached an agreement Saturday, Baltimore general manager Ozzie Newsome said.

HONORING TILLMAN: Broncos quarterback Jake Plummer wore a sticker on his helmet Sunday honoring former teammate Pat Tillman, even though he expects the NFL to fine him for it. Tillman, the former Arizona Cardinals safety who walked away from the NFL to join the U.S. Army Rangers and fight in Afghanistan, was killed in action in April. Plummer teamed with Tillman at Arizona State and with the Cardinals.

QUOTABLES: "We're just stupid. We're just dumb," Dallas coach Bill Parcells after the Cowboys' 26-10 loss to the Giants. ... "If they want to put skirts on the offensive players, then put skirts and pumps on them and let them play another game," Oakland cornerback Phillip Buchanon after the Raiders' 35-14 loss to Indianapolis.
