Parcells dodged players' fists

NFL notebook

The Associated Press

Bill Parcells' players have tried to hit him, and that's fine with the two-time Super Bowl champion coach.

"We've had a few" players take a swing at him, Parcells tells 60 Minutes on Sunday. "That's OK. I think confrontation is healthy, because it clears the air quickly."

At 63, Parcells doesn't sound like someone planning to be with the Cowboys for the long haul.

"You know the end is near," he says. "I really do know it, so I can enjoy it more. I am enjoying it a lot more than I did and I'm not beating myself up quite as much."

BROWNS: Kellen Winslow Jr., out for the season with a broken right leg, was placed on the team's crowded injured reserve list Thursday.

Winslow is the fifth significant player to go on IR, joining defensive end Courtney Brown, linebackers Brant Boyer and Ben Taylor and offensive lineman Chad Beasley.

FORMER STEELER KILLED: Justin Strzelczyk, 36, a former offensive lineman with Pittsburgh, died Thursday in a collision with a truck in Herkimer, N.Y., after he led state troopers on a 40-mile chase.

The 6-foot-3, 309-pound Strzelczyk was an 11th-round pick in the 1990 draft out of Maine. He spent nine years with the Steelers and played in the 1995 Super Bowl.

"He was a free spirit. He was a little different in the way he did things, but that was him," Steelers running back Jerome Bettis said. "It's a tragedy what happened."
