Rice reception streak snapped at 274 games

NFL notebook

The Associated Press

Jerry Rice of the Oakland Raiders failed to catch a pass, snapping his streak of 274 games, the longest streak in NFL history. Rice had one pass thrown in his direction during the Raiders' 13-10 win over the Buffalo Bills. The last time he didn't catch a pass was Dec. 1, 1985.

"There were a couple of times he was open, and we didn't get him the football," Raiders coach Norv Turner said.

Art Monk had the NFL's second-longest streak of consecutive games with a reception at 183.

Rice, 41, holds NFL records for career receptions (1,521), receiving yardage (22,488) and touchdowns (194).

Sunday's injuries included:

• Saints running back Deuce McAllister lasted just a handful of plays before spraining his right ankle against San Francisco. On his third carry, McAllister was tackled by Bryant Young and fumbled. He spent the rest of the day on the sideline in an orthopedic boot. McAllister will have an MRI exam today. San Francisco running back Kevan Barlow also got hurt in the game, leaving in the fourth quarter with bruised ribs.

• In Baltimore, Steelers quarterback Tommy Maddox left the game against the Ravens with an elbow injury, while cornerback Deion Sanders strained a hamstring in the second quarter. Tight end Todd Heap sprained his right ankle.

• In East Rutherford, N.J., Redskins quarterback Mark Brunell injured his left hamstring against the Giants.

• Cleveland rookie tight end Kellen Winslow Jr. sustained an apparent ankle injury at the end of the loss to Dallas. ... Defensive end Courtney Brown left the game against Dallas in the first quarter with a sprained left foot. ... Defensive tackle Gerard Warren reaggravated the pectoral muscle that knocked him out of the opener.

• Chargers quarterback Drew Brees sustained a concussion.

• Jaguars defensive end Paul Spicer broke his right leg against the Broncos.

• Jets Pro Bowl center Kevin Mawae broke his right hand in the win against the Chargers.
