Safety Beckett doubtful to play Sunday

Bengals notebook

By Mark Curnutte
Enquirer staff writer

Bengals strong safety Rogers Beckett, who has a recurring concussion, was downgraded Friday to doubtful for the team's game with Miami Sunday night.

Coach Marvin Lewis said Friday rookie Madieu Williams and Kevin Kaesviharn probably would start at the two safety spots. Beckett did not practice Friday, missing his third consecutive day of work.

Free safety Kim Herring, who started last week, is out with an ankle injury. The Bengals have only two healthy safeties on the roster.

Bengals tailback Chris Perry (hamstring) was upgraded to probable, as was defensive end Robert Geathers (ankle).

Linebacker Brian Simmons (knee) and cornerback Deltha O'Neal (ankle) practiced and appear on course to start.

Center Rich Braham (knee) and wide receiver Peter Warrick (knee, shin) remained questionable - a 50-50 chance to play. Neither player practiced Friday, though they worked on the sideline with trainers.

Lewis had no comment before practice when asked about other possible changes in the starting lineup. The Bengals practiced late on the game field at Paul Brown Stadium to get acclimated to lights.

Dolphins cornerback Patrick Surtain (groin) was downgraded from questionable to doubtful.
