Rogers breaks his collarbone - again

NFL notebook

The Associated Press

A broken collarbone might have ruined another season for Charles Rogers. The No. 2 pick in the 2003 draft was injured going for a pass Sunday in the first quarter of the Detroit Lions' 20-16 victory over the Chicago Bears.

X-rays revealed a fracture near the one he got last year during a bye week practice. He played only the first five games of his rookie season because of the injury, catching 22 passes. "Same collarbone, different spot," Lions coach Steve Mariucci said.

The Lions also lost Pro Bowl defensive back Dre' Bly, who sprained a ligament in his knee in the opening quarter. Bly will undergo an MRI exam Tuesday.

• Chiefs cornerback William Bartee had to be carted off the field with a sprained neck Sunday night against the Broncos.

• The Eagles lost their top draft pick from this year when offensive lineman Shawn Andrews went out with a fractured right leg.

• Tim Rattay left his fourth career start for the 49ers in the second quarter with a shoulder injury, but returned to lead two fourth-quarter touchdown drives. He finished 18-of-31 for 175 yards in a 21-19 loss to the Falcons.

• New York City will be forced to abandon its bid to host the 2012 Olympics if a deal is not reached soon on a $1.4 billion stadium for the New York Jets, Mayor Michael Bloomberg said.

The plan calls for a $1.4 billion stadium built above a rail yard on Manhattan's far West Side. But the idea has met with opposition from neighborhood residents, local politicians and some civic groups.

The proposed stadium would house the Jets and anchor the city's bid for the Olympics. Under the proposal, the Jets would spend $800 million and the city and state would add $300 million each.

The Jets play in New Jersey, sharing a stadium with the New York Giants. New York is one of five finalists for the 2012 Olympics, along with Paris, London, Madrid and Moscow.

The International Olympic Committee will announce the winner in July.
