Abdullah out: Ross in?
By Mark Curnutte
Enquirer staff writer
The potentially season-ending injury Thursday to second-year linebacker Khalid Abdullah has returned Adrian Ross to Bengals' plans.
Ross said late Thursday night that he is considering offers from the Bengals and two other teams, one of which is Pittsburgh. He said he would decide today.
Ross wasn't his normal talkative self and confirmed a Bengals' offer by saying, "Yeah." Asked if he were considering returning to the team that terminated his contract on July 23, he said, "Yup."
Abdullah suffered a fractured right ankle, Lewis said. His foot was under a teammates' during a goal line 11-on-11 play. The team wore helmets, shoulder pads and shorts for the practice.
Bengals trainers placed an air cast on the lower leg. The seriousness of the injury required an ambulance.
How much time he could miss was not known Thursday night.
Abdullah was listed second on the depth chart behind Brian Simmons at weak-side linebacker. Rookie third-round draft pick Landon Johnson now moves into the backup role, at least temporarily.
"He gives us some depth there," defensive coordinator Leslie Frazier said of Johnson. Abdullah had 14 special teams tackles and appeared in 16 games as a rookie.
