The Dallas Cowboys will cut quarterback Chad Hutchinson, ESPN.com reported this weekend.

Quincy Carter is the probable starter followed by free agent acquisition Vinny Testaverde, Drew Henson and second-year player Tony Romo.

The Web site also reported the Cowboys' Darren Woodson probably will miss the season opener Sept. 12 at Minnesota because of a ruptured disk in his lower back. He is set to have surgery Monday.

REDSKINS: Washington opens training camp next Saturday at its home training base in Ashburn, Va.

But Redskins fans, who have waited for this week since their Hall of Fame coach was rehired in January, might not get to see much. While most teams encourage their supporters to attend drills, the new/old coach probably will restrict fan access.

"I don't care if you're taking a test or what you're doing," Joe Gibbs said. "If there's things walking around, and people talking, good-looking girls walking up and down the sidelines and everything, then generally what people do is: 'I'd rather look over there than look out here.' So that's a problem - distractions."

STEELERS: Bill Cowher is negotiating with Pittsburgh on a possible new contract, reports ESPN.com and the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette. Cowher's current contract expires after the 2005 season. The new contract reportedly could run through 2008.

JAGUARS: Jacksonville has signed right offensive tackle Maurice Williams to a five-year contract extension worth $21 million, reports ESPN.com.

TEXANS: Dunta Robinson tried to keep his head from spinning as he thumbed through the Houston Texans' nearly 4-inch thick defensive playbook.

"It's so big and they throw so much at you," Robinson said Saturday, minutes after signing a six-year deal worth about $10.7 million with the Texans. "The playbook is overwhelming. By the end of the day, you can barely close it."

Robinson, the 10th overall pick in the NFL draft, is the highest selection of any team to agree to terms this offseason.
