UT's Munoz on NCAA gambling task force
The Enquirer and wire reports
University of Tennessee tackle Michael Munoz, a Moeller High graduate, has been appointed by NCAA president Myles Brand to a 26-member task force on sports gambling.
The panel, which also includes University of Dayton president Daniel J. Curran, will devise recommendations for addressing the problems of wagering by student-athletes.
According to a newly released NCAA survey, 35 percent of male student-athletes and 10 percent of female student-athletes took part in some type of sports wagering in the past year.
Most gambling or sports wagering happened at the Division III level, though almost 5 percent of Division I football players and 4.4 percent of Division I basketball players admitted to gambling-related behavior. NCAA rules forbid gambling on college and pro sports.
Munoz, son of former Bengal and NFL Hall of Famer Anthony Munoz, is projected to be the first tackle taken in next year's draft.
