Burris also headed Patriots' way

Recently traded running back Corey Dillon will see a familiar face in New England.

The Patriots on Tuesday signed former Bengals cornerback Jeff Burris to a one-year contract worth $760,000. Burris, released last month by the Bengals, received $25,000 to sign.

Burris is the latest Bengal released this spring to be picked up elsewhere. Last week, the 49ers signed offensive lineman Scott Rehberg as a free agent.

EUROPEAN MISSION: Bengals running back Skip Hicks, a member of the 3-0 Frankfurt Galaxy, scored three touchdowns in their 28-10 over Rhein.

Hicks, who leads NFL Europe in scoring with five touchdowns, had touchdown runs of 4 and 10 yards and caught a 15-yard scoring pass.

Frankurt is tied with Berlin atop the standings.

Hicks, signed by the Bengals in January as a free agent, is expected to compete for playing time this season. Cut in training camp by Carolina, Hicks has 12 NFL touchdowns in four seasons.

QB CHALLENGE: Carson Palmer and former Bengals quarterback Boomer Esiason will participate this weekend in the NFL Quarterback Challenge in Los Angeles.

The made-for-TV event will be filmed Saturday in Santa Monica, Calif., and air on CBS July 17 and 18.
