Former Cowboy taken to psychiatric ward

DALLAS - Troubled former Dallas Cowboy Dimitrius Underwood was taken to a psychiatric ward after refusing to get out of his stalled car on an interstate highway.
Police found the 27-year-old former defensive tackle sitting inside the car in the middle of I-35 shortly before 9:30 p.m. Thursday.
Police shot several rounds of pepper balls at Underwood's car when he refused to get out. He was taken to Parkland Memorial Hospital.
Dallas Police Sgt. Gil Cerda said no charges were filed.
"He's not wanted for anything," Cerda said.
In late 2002, Underwood was arrested on charges of robbing a paraplegic and assaulting a police officer, but a jury found him incompetent to stand trial.
Underwood has been diagnosed with bipolar disorder.
He played at Michigan State before he became Minnesota's first-round pick in the 1999 NFL Draft. The Cowboys picked him up a year later, but he was cut for missing practices.
