Dungy sees Manning staying put
Colts coach says deal will get done
The Associated Press
INDIANAPOLIS - Coach Tony Dungy believes the Indianapolis Colts will sign Peyton Manning to a new contract that will leave the team enough money to keep most of the rest of the roster intact.
Dungy spoke Thursday during the first day of the NFL's annual combine and reiterated what team president Bill Polian had said last week - that Manning's deal will dictate how many core players the Colts can keep.
"Both sides understand what the issues are," Dungy said. "Peyton deserves to get paid a lot of money. ... I believe it will get done."
The quarterback's agent, Tom Condon, has said we will not comment on the negotiations.
CHIEFS: Kansas City's Larry Johnson must perform community service and attend anger-management courses for prosecutors in Olathe, Kan., to drop charges he threatened a former girlfriend with a gun.
The running back also must stay out of trouble for two years.
LEAGUE SUIT: The NFL is suing Orlando Brown for $500,000, claiming the Baltimore Ravens' offensive tackle owes the league the money because he returned after receiving an injury settlement.
Brown returned to the NFL last season after being out of football since Dec. 19, 1999, when he was hit in the eye with a penalty flag while playing for the Cleveland Browns.
WUERFFEL RETIRES: After six seasons as a backup quarterback with three teams, 1996 Heisman Trophy winner Danny Wuerffel is retiring.
