KIRKLAND, Wash. - Seattle Seahawks running back Shaun Alexander was added to the Pro Bowl roster Tuesday as an injury replacement for Deuce McAllister of the New Orleans Saints.
It will be the first Pro Bowl trip for Alexander, a graduate of Boone County High School. He will join four Seahawks teammates in Hawaii: tackle Walter Jones and special teams player Alex Bannister were named to the squad, and quarterback Matt Hasselbeck and guard Steve Hutchinson were injury replacements.
Alexander was the NFC's fourth-leading rusher this season with a career-high 1,435 rushing yards and 14 touchdowns on 326 carries. He also caught 42 passes for 295 yards and two touchdowns.
BEARS: The team named Tim Spencer its running backs coach. Spencer joins the Bears following 10 seasons in charge of running backs at Ohio State. Spencer mentored Maurice Clarett during the Buckeyes' national championship season in 2002 and was Eddie George's position coach when George won the Heisman Trophy in 1995.
It was 1995 when Bears coach Lovie Smith and Spencer were on the same Buckeyes coaching staff; Smith coached defensive backs.
Spencer was a running back at OSU from 1979-82 and was co-captain and team MVP as a senior.
BILLS: Buffalo added three assistants: tight ends coach Frank Verducci, offensive assistant Mike Miller, and strength and conditioning coach Brad Roll.
Verducci was the offensive line coach for Dallas in 2002 and Cincinnati's tight ends coach from 1999-2001. Miller spent seven seasons with Pittsburgh, and Roll was Miami's assistant strength and conditioning coach for eight seasons.
