Coaches' corner
MOBILE, Ala. - Bob Bratkowski is coaching in his second Senior Bowl but his first as an offensive coordinator.
His previous Senior Bowl was in 2001, as receivers coach for the Steelers. It was then that Bratkowski took a liking to an Oregon State wideout. Hired later that January as Bengals offensive coordinator, Bratkowski recommended the kid, and the Bengals drafted Chad Johnson in the second round in 2001.
"What's different now is I'm looking at all positions," Bratkowski said. "I talk to the position coaches, and they tell me to take a closer look at one kid or another. I will when I watch practice film."
Though the Bengals have more needs on defense, the organization still might draft offense with the 17th overall pick if it's best for the team.
"We always looking," Bratkowski said. "I'd like to see us tinker with another speed receiver to enhance our ability to go down the field. But the work we do here will help us a great deal in the later rounds, where you might find a steal who plays in the league for 12 years."
