Lions upset Favre, Packers
Dolphins roll in Big D
By The Associated Press
DETROIT - Brett Favre threw away a game and hurt the Green Bay Packers' playoff chances. Against the Detroit Lions, no less.
Favre tossed three interceptions - two to Dre' Bly - and lost a fumble, and the Lions relied on five field goals by Jason Hanson to stun the Packers 22-14 on Thursday.
The Lions (4-8) surpassed their victory totals from each of the past two seasons and extended their home winning streak to three games. The Packers (6-6) dropped 11/2 games behind the Minnesota Vikings, who play at St. Louis on Sunday, in the NFC North.
In addition to harassing Favre throughout, the Lions stifled running back Ahman Green, holding him to 57 yards. Green came in averaging an NFC-best 120.5 yards and had gained at least 100 in a franchise-record four straight games.
Favre was 23-of-37 for 296 yards with two touchdowns.
Detroit's Joey Harrington was 21-of-32 for 183 yards and an interception. He completed 15 of his first 17 passes one game after throwing four interceptions in a loss at Minnesota.
Dolphins 40, Cowboys 21
IRVING, Texas - Jay Fiedler was 14-of-17 with two touchdown passes and a scoring run before halftime, then threw for another score early in the second half for Miami.
Fiedler, making his first start since spraining his left knee Oct. 19, threw only three times in the second half, completing two. He was 16-of-20 for 239 yards with no interceptions.
Chris Chambers had all three TD catches and Jason Taylor returned a fumble 34 yards for another score. Ricky Williams ran for 104 yards, putting him over 1,000 for the season.
Miami (8-4) is 11/2 games behind New England in the AFC East and 11/2 games ahead of Denver and Cincinnati for the conference's final wild-card spot.
Quincy Carter was 24-of-40 for 288 yards and two touchdowns, but had three interceptions and the costly fumble for Cowboys (8-4), who lost for the third time in six games. Dallas fell out of a first-place tie with Philadelphia in the NFC East, and out of a four-way tie for the best record in the conference.
