Callahan stands by players

NFL notebook

The Associated Press

Bill Callahan has heard the reports of steroid use by four of his players, and he acknowledges it's hurt the team's mood. But until there's proof one of his guys used such banned drugs, he's standing by them.

His comments came a day after CBS reported that defensive tackle Dana Stubblefield, center Barret Robbins, linebacker Bill Romanowski and defensive tackle Chris Cooper tested positive for THG, or tetrahydrogestrinone, and could each face four-game suspensions.

TITANS: Defensive end Jevon Kearse has a high sprain of his left ankle. But an MRI showed no damage to the joint. Titans coach Jeff Fisher said it's too early to say if Kearse will play Sunday when the Titans (8-2) visit Atlanta (2-8).

CHARGERS: Wide receiver Tim Dwight remained hospitalized in Denver with a partially collapsed lung he suffered a day earlier in a 37-8 loss to the Broncos.

Also, safety Kwamie Lassiter sprained the medial collateral ligament in his right knee.

REDSKINS: Quarterback Patrick Ramsey has been playing all season with a broken bone in his right foot, coach Steve Spurrier revealed.

Taylor sat out most of the fourth quarter of the 10-3 defeat Sunday.

BRONCOS: The Broncos lost LB Terry Pierce w with a torn chest muscle.

JETS: Safety Jon McGraw will miss the rest of the season after reinjuring his right shoulder.
