Boller likely to miss rest of season

Shockey's year also in jeopardy; RB Davis questionable vs. Redskins

The Associated Press

OWINGS MILLS, Md. - Baltimore rookie quarterback Kyle Boller probably will miss the rest of the season after injuring his left leg in Sunday night's loss to the St. Louis Rams.

Boller tore his quadriceps just above the knee in the second quarter of the Ravens' 33-22 defeat. The injury could require surgery, but even in a best-case scenario he would not be able to return until late December.

Ravens coach Brian Billick said Monday that Boller could be placed on injured reserve as soon as today. Chris Redman will start Sunday against the Miami Dolphins and Anthony Wright will move up the depth chart to No. 2.

Baltimore will sign a third quarterback this week, Billick said.

DOLPHINS: Coach Dave Wannstedt said Monday that team owner Wayne Huizenga asked to meet with him this week, one day after Miami (5-4) lost to Tennessee 31-7. Wannstedt said he's confident the team can turn things around after losing for the third time in four games.

GIANTS: Tight end Jeremy Shockey might miss the rest of the season with a sprained knee. His recovery is slated for six to eight weeks, coach Jim Fassel said.

Other injured Giants include backup tight end Marcellus Rivers (shoulder, neck), receiver Tim Carter (concussion) and cornerback Ralph Brown (shoulder).

JETS: Cornerback Ray Mickens (neck) is questionable for this weekend's game against Indianapolis.

Safety Jon McGraw (shoulder) and defensive end John Abraham (groin) also will not play. Receiver Wayne Chrebet (head) is out for now.

COLTS: Return man Terrence Wilkins signed with Indianapolis Monday, reuniting him with the franchise that brought him into the league as an undrafted free agent.

To make room on the roster, the Colts waived Jim Newton.

PANTHERS: Stephen Davis, the NFC's leading rusher, is still bothered by a sprained ankle and his status is unknown for Carolina's game against Washington.

BILLS: Receiver Eric Moulds is still bothered by a groin injury and expects to play hurt the rest of the season.

VIKINGS: Special teams standout and backup safety Jack Brewer might need season-ending surgery on his right shoulder.

PATRIOTS: Defensive lineman Ted Washington (leg) and linebacker Ted Johnson (foot) could practice this week in preparation for Sunday's game against Dallas.

JAGUARS: The NFL fined defensive lineman Marcus Stroud of the Jacksonville Jaguars $5,000 for a hit on Tennessee quarterback Steve McNair in their game two weeks ago.
