Former Redskins defensive end added to mix

The Bengals acquired defensive end Ladairis Jackson on waivers from the Washington Redskins.

Jackson is 6-foot-2, 260 pounds. He is 24 and played college ball at Oregon State.

A second-year NFL player, Jackson was inactive for Washington's first six games this season, and was active but did not play last Sunday against Buffalo. He played in 15 games for Washington last season, posting 15 tackles, including 2.5 sacks. Bengals coach Marvin Lewis was Washington's defensive coordinator last season.

The Bengals also waived rookie linebacker Keyon Whiteside, who had been on the inactive list for the first six games.

STILL NO. 2: For the second consecutive game, rookie quarterback Carson Palmer will back up starter Jon Kitna on Sunday.

The No. 1 pick in this year's draft, Palmer was inactive for the first five games.

"I was excited," he said of the promotion. "It puts me that much closer to getting on the field."

The Heisman Trophy winner completed 37-of-54 passes for 451 yards and four touchdowns and four interceptions during the preseason.

"I really didn't know what to expect and was not sure exactly how this whole thing was going to work out," Palmer said. "It's going well. I feel like I'm getting a lot more comfortable. I'm learning a lot more each week."

INJURIES: Wide receiver T.J. Houshmandzadeh (hamstring) is out for the Seattle game. Tailback Corey Dillon (groin) also did not practice but is listed as probable. Strong safety Rogers Beckett (thigh) is probable.

Kevin Kelly contributed.
