Class of 2004 boasts quality RBs

The crop of college running backs is always good, and the draft Class of 2004 is no exception.

Draft guru Mel Kiper Jr. ranks three running backs in the latest edition of his top 25 draft prospects.

Among them are Michael Turner of Northern Illinois and Greg Jones of Florida State.

Turner, a 5-foot-10, 223-pound senior, has 557 yards in five games, including 156 against Alabama.

Jones, whose 2002 season ended with a knee injury, has 265 yards on 53 carries this year for the Seminoles. He is 6 feet, 255.

At No. 25, Kiper lists Michigan's Chris Perry. In Michigan's 38-0 victory against Notre Dame, Perry had 177 yards of total offense. He is almost 6-1 and weighs 225 pounds.

The list of underclass running backs who might declare for the draft includes Louisville's Eric Shelton, Oregon State's Steven Jackson, Auburn's Carnell Williams and Ronnie Brown, Virginia Tech's Kevin Jones and Texas' Cedric Benson.
