Broncos prove themselves against rival Oakland
NFL notebook

DENVER - Beating Cincinnati and San Diego was a nice way for Denver to start the season. The wins gave the Broncos a little more confidence and new quarterback Jake Plummer time to get comfortable.
But it's not like the Broncos took out the town bully with one punch. It was the Bengals and Chargers, after all. Embarrassing the Raiders on national television? Now that's saying something.
"I'm tired of all these people talking about other teams and how great they are," Broncos tight end Shannon Sharpe said after Denver's 31-10 win Monday night. "They talk about these teams that are supposedly set for the Super Bowl. But you know what? We played like a great team and we showed what we are all about."
Denver joined Kansas City and Indianapolis as the only teams in the AFC at 3-0. Oakland, last year's AFC champion, fell to 1-2.
JAGUARS: Jacksonville signed former first-round pick Troy Edwards on Tuesday to help bolster its struggling receiving corps. Edwards was the 13th pick of the 1999 draft. He spent his first three seasons with Pittsburgh, where he caught 98 passes for 1,212 yards. He was with the St. Louis Rams last year, where he caught 18 passes.
PATRIOTS: New England Patriots linebacker Rosevelt Colvin expects to play again next year after fracturing his left hip, an injury that is less serious than initially feared.
New England was counting on Colvin to improve its pass rush after he led the Chicago Bears with 10 1/2 sacks each of the last two seasons. He had one sack in each of the first two games this season before being hurt in the second quarter at Philadelphia on Sept. 14.
SUPER BOWL 2008: The New Jersey Sports and Exposition Authority said it had reached an agreement with the New York Giants on renovations to Giants Stadium, a move officials hope will bolster the state's chances of hosting the Super Bowl in 2008. Improvements to the stadium are widely viewed as necessary for the NFL to consider selecting New Jersey as the site of what would be the first outdoor Super Bowl in a cold-weather city.
RAMS: St. Louis running back Marshall Faulk will have surgery today to repair cartilage in his right knee. The injury has bothered Faulk off and on since training camp. He was expected to miss four to six weeks after breaking two broken bones in his left hand Sunday at Seattle.
VIKINGS: Minnesota re-signed wide receiver Robert Baker and released safety Ron Israel. Baker adds depth at receiver, where Randy Moss and D'Wayne Bates - the top two on the depth chart - are bothered by injuries.
BUCCANEERS: Tampa Bay signed free agent wide receiver Marvin "Snoop" Minnis to a two-year contract, helping solidify a position stung by the loss of starter Joe Jurevicius.
Jurevicius tore a ligament in his right knee in a loss to Carolina two weeks ago and will miss at least four to six weeks.
CHARGERS: San Diego right tackle Vaughn Parker had surgery Tuesday to repair torn ligaments in his left knee and will miss the rest of the season.
DOLPHINS: Center Tim Ruddy, who has started all three games this season, underwent surgery to clean debris from his left knee.
