Notes: Johnson, Williams hurt but will play
By Mark Curnutte
The Cincinnati Enquirer
Wide receiver Chad Johnson and defensive tackle Tony Williams were added to the injury report Friday, but coach Marvin Lewis said both players would be ready for the Raiders on Sunday.
"Everybody's fine," Lewis said.
Johnson (ankle) and Williams (back) are listed as probable. Williams is the starting right tackle, Johnson the team's top receiver.
RAIDERS UPDATE: Oakland officially listed wide receiver Jerry Porter (abdominal) as out Friday. Linebacker Bill Romanowski (concussion) was upgraded to probable.
LOOKING AHEAD: Wide receiver T.J. Houshmandzadeh (hamstring) will again be out, but Lewis is hoping for a return in the near future. "I think he's getting closer, but right now we'll just have to see how he progresses next week," Lewis said.
The Bengals are expecting the return to practice next of guard Victor Leyva (chest) and backup running back Rudi Johnson (thigh). Leyva could get a quick look if offensive play doesn't improve.
Houshmandzadeh's return would make the most immediate contribution, though. Depth has been a concern at wide receiver, where, beyond Johnson and Peter Warrick, the Bengals have only rookies Kelley Washington and Lawrence Hamilton.
The Bengals did try out veteran wide receivers Troy Edwards and Trevor Gaylor on Monday.
"We could have had anybody, but we decided to stay pat," Lewis said. "We feel our young guys are progressing, and so we're just going to go with these guys. We feel comfortable with them and we feel we're going to get T.J. back soon."
