Bills add Milloy to backfield
The Associated Press
ORCHARD PARK, N.Y. - Lawyer Milloy agreed to sign with the Buffalo Bills on Wednesday, a day after being cut by the New England Patriots.
The move adds drama to an intriguing season opener - the Bills host the Patriots on Sunday, and Buffalo quarterback Drew Bledsoe also was a star in New England.
Milloy was expected to join the team for his first practice today.
Patriots coach Gregg Williams said he would have to first speak with Milloy before determining if he would be ready to play Sunday.
Milloy was released by the Patriots for salary-cap reasons Tuesday. He was to count $5.25 million against New England's cap.
Terms of Milloy's new deal were not immediately available.
PATRIOTS: It may take four players to replace Milloy in the New England secondary. Antwan Harris, Chris Akins, Aric Morris and Je'Rod Cherry each could take Milloy's spot, although coach Bill Belichick didn't say who would start.
BROWNS: Former Ohio State quarterback Steve Bellisari, released last week by St. Louis, had a tryout with Cleveland. He was drafted in the sixth round last year by the Rams, who tried to make him a safety, but spent last season on injured reserve.
"We took a look at him at safety just to see what kind of transition he made," coach Butch Davis said.
CHIEFS: Running back Priest Holmes, who has led the NFL in yards from scrimmage the past two seasons, agreed to a four-year extension. Terms were not disclosed.
STEELERS: Joey Porter, who was shot outside a Denver nightclub Sunday, made a surprise visit to practice. The All-Pro linebacker walked with a slight limp.
Linebacker Erik Flowers, a former first-round draft pick of Buffalo, was claimed on waivers from Houston.
JAGUARS: The team signed running back Chris Fuamatu-Ma'afala, a sixth-year player cut by Pittsburgh Sunday, but a hamstring injury might keep him out of the opener against Carolina.
JETS: Quarterback Marquel Blackwell re-signed after being cut last week, and veteran QB Jamie Martin was released. Blackwell, a free agent from South Florida, was 11-of-18 for 154 yards and two touchdowns in three exhibition games.
