Inside training camp
Today's schedule
Camp closed. Camp re-opens Tuesday with practice from 8:45-11 a.m.
Directions
From Downtown: Take I-75 South about 70 miles to Exit 126 (Georgetown, Ky.). Turn right off ramp onto U.S. 460 West. Stay on 460 for about 2 miles. Turn right at the light at Lemons Mill Road (1962 West). The driveway for camp is another one-half mile on the right.
Coming up
Coach Marvin Lewis has canceled the morning practice Aug. 18 and moved it to Aug. 21 from 8:45-11 a.m. Camp originally had been closed Aug. 21, but it now will be open to fans.
Injury report
Lewis left players at Georgetown College to receive treatment for injuries. Lewis would not say which players stayed behind.
Palmer watch
Lewis is pleased by what he has seen from rookie quarterback Carson Palmer in the first two weeks of training camp.
"You continually see the presence of his ability to throw the ball down field," Lewis said. "He is doing a much better job of releasing the football and checking it down when it's not really there down the field."
Highlights
Observations at the two-week point of camp:
The run defense, which struggled last season, will have its first preseason test today. So far, the front seven have done an effective job shutting down run lanes.
The extra attention paid to special teams should have positive results once the season starts.
The offense is showing the stability that comes with having a set structure at quarterback. Jon Kitna continues to shine - both on the field and in the locker room - because of his status as the undisputed starter.
