Panthers continue work with offense

NFL notebook: WR Proehl part of Carolina's effort to boost scoring

The Associated Press

CHARLOTTE, N.C - The Carolina Panthers added their fourth new face to the offense Monday, signing free agent wide receiver Ricky Proehl to a three-year deal.

He was introduced alongside new running back Stephen Davis, who signed a five-year contract Friday. They join quarterback Jake Delhomme and lineman Doug Brzezinski as offseason additions to the offense.

"It's a great organization that is headed in the right direction," Proehl said. "... If we can make half the changes offensively that they made defensively, I think we're going to be a good team."

General Manager Marty Hurney said they've made an offer to Tennessee receiver Kevin Dyson and they also want to meet with defensive back Jason Sehorn, who was released last week.

STEELERS: Tight end Matt Cushing has re-signed with the Steelers, providing Pittsburgh a backup to Mark Bruener and Jerame Tuman.

BRONCOS: For the first time in 21 years, Denver will hold summer training camp at team headquarters instead of at the University of Northern Colorado in Greeley, Colo.

The team said that the switch was made because of the increased emphasis on intensive offseason conditioning programs and mini-camps throughout the NFL. As a result, it has become less important to take players away from their team's city for extended training.

TEXANS: Houston has re-signed safety Eric Brown. Brown signed with the Texans as a free agent last year and started 15 games. He previously played at Denver.

BILLS: Buffalo has signed wide receiver Bobby Shaw, who is expected to be the Bills third wide receiver. Shaw spent last year with Jacksonville and caught a career-high 44 passes for 525 yards and one touchdown. He also averaged 12.4 yards on 25 punt returns.

•Seattle Seahawks placekicker Rian Lindell signed an offer sheet from the Bills. The deal is for four years and worth more than $4.2 million, said agent Paul Sheehy. Seattle has a week to match the offer.

CHARGERS: Cornerback Jerry Wilson signed a one-year contract to remain with San Diego.
