ORCHARD PARK, N.Y. - The Buffalo Bills have made Dick LeBeau an offer to join their coaching staff. Now it's up to the former Bengals coach to decide whether he wants the job.
"We want him, and hopefully he wants us," Bills coach Gregg Williams said Wednesday, a day after LeBeau visited with the team at its suburban Buffalo headquarters.
Williams said LeBeau wanted to take a few days to consider whether to take the Bills' open offer.
"He has options," Williams said. "He wants to coach in the right situation. And yesterday, hopefully, we presented the right situation, because he would be a valuable addition."
Williams wouldn't elaborate on what role LeBeau, a noted defensive specialist, would have with the Bills. The team, which doesn't have any current coaching vacancies, is willing to create a new position - probably a defensive assistant - for LeBeau.
LeBeau was not available for comment and has avoided talking to the media since he was fired by the Bengals on Dec.30 after going 12-33 overall, including a franchise-worst 2-14 last season.
LeBeau, who turns 66 in September, has more than 40 years of NFL experience and was defensive coordinator on two AFC Championship teams - the 1988 Bengals and 1995 Steelers.
