Steelers bungle, Eagles rumble
Enquirer news services
The NFL playoffs just keep getting better.
Six days after ending the Browns' season with a dramatic win, Pittsburgh's playoff run ended 34-31 in overtime when Tennessee kicker Joe Nedney kicked a 26-yard field goal.
Nedney missed a 48-yarder on the final play of regulation and muffed a 31-yarder in overtime, but a penalty on that play gave him a third opportunity to win the game.
"I got a chance to redeem myself - it's unbelievable," Nedney said. "I went from feeling that small to being the king of the world for the week. Just crazy."
In the late game Saturday, the Eagles Donovan McNabb, making his first start since he broke his ankle Nov. 17, led Philadelphia past Atlanta and its sensational quarterback, Michael Vick, 20-6.
Earlier Saturday, the Eagles' Andy Reid was named coach of the year.
In today's action:
Tampa Bay finds out if giving up $8 million and an assortment of draft picks to hire coach Jon Gruden will pay off. The Buccaneers host the San Francisco 49ers at 1 p.m.
The Oakland Raiders and MVP quarterback Rich Gannon take on the surprising New York Jets, who have outscored their last three opponents 113-34. The game, at Oakland, starts at 4:30 p.m.
