Who's who of candidates
A brief look at some people being mentioned as the Bengals' next head coach:
Jim Anderson: Bengals running backs coach since 1984. His players have consistently been the team's most productive.
Tom Coughlin: Former Jaguars coach, general manager and offensive coordinator who led expansion Jacksonville to a 68-60 record and two AFC championship games.
Mark Duffner: Bengals defensive coordinator who declined head-coaching job in 2000 in deference to Dick LeBeau. Former coach at Holy Cross and Maryland.
Marvin Lewis: Washington Redskins defensive coordinator with 11 years NFL experience. Coordinator of 2000 Baltimore Ravens defense that allowed fewest points and won Super Bowl.
Mike Mularkey: Second-year Pittsburgh Steelers offensive coordinator whose offense has been ranked third and fifth. The Bengals received permission Monday to talk to him.
Lovie Smith: Second-year St.Louis Rams defensive coordinator who remade unit with eight new starters in 2001. Ranked 13th this year.
Charlie Weis: Longtime NFL assistant, who groomed New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady as position coach and offensive coordinator in 2001.
