Isolation Booth: Horn vs. Roman
By Mark Curnutte
Cincinnati Enquirer
Season-ending injuries to free safeties Lamont Thompson and Cory Hall have put pressure on converted cornerback Mark Roman to hold down the position.
The safety position has grown so thin the Bengals were forced to sign Jason Perry last week to give them four players at the position.
Roman started the opening game at free safety, but the Bengals moved Hall back to free from strong safety to improve the team's run defense. JoJuan Armour was inserted as strong safety.
Roman has played in 12 games and has 32 tackles. He can hit. Today's test will be against the pass. He will have to make correct reads and help his cornerbacks against an explosive Saints pass offense.
New Orleans' top receiver is Joe Horn. He has 78 receptions for 1,205 yards, putting him among the top four NFC receivers. He has a 15.4-yard average.
Horn has 1,200-plus receiving yards for the third consecutive season. And he has 15 100-yard receiving games since the start of the 2000 season.
His success reflects the team's success. Of Horn's 15 100-yard games, the Saints have 13 victories.
