No more magic in Atlanta

Reeves: Tagliabue rescinds 'magic' fines

The Associated Press

FLOWERY BRANCH, Ga. - NFL commissioner Paul Tagliabue has rescinded fines four Atlanta defensive players received for their "pass the magic" dance during the Dec. 1 game at Minnesota.

Cornerbacks Juran Bolden, Ashley Ambrose and Ray Buchanan and linebacker Keith Brooking were fined $5,000 each for what league officials deemed their "prolonged, excessive and premeditated celebration" in the 30-24 overtime victory.

The dance, in which defenders squat and wiggle fingers at each other after big plays, has become a staple this season.

Atlanta coach Dan Reeves said Thursday he called Tagliabue to complain that players were never warned the dance could merit a fine. He said he asked weeks ago if they could be fined for the celebration, but never heard back.

On Monday, Reeves said, "I called the commissioner and just told him, 'That's not right.'

"I told him the situation, he said he'd look into it, and he called me (Tuesday) and said, 'You can't do it any more. We'll rescind the fines."'
