Bulger's back as Rams QB
The Associated Press
ST. LOUIS - Marc Bulger received medical clearance to play Tuesday as the Rams' quarterback carousel turned again.
Bulger, who has been at quarterback for all five Rams victories this season, has been out since Nov.18 with a sprained ligament between his index and third finger. He has made progress the last several days and will replace Jamie Martin, who was ineffective in Sunday's 49-10 loss at Kansas City, for this week's game against the Cardinals.
Bulger has a 106.0 passer rating, which would lead the NFL by a wide margin if he had enough attempts to qualify. He has 12 touchdown passes and four interceptions.
BEARS: The beat-up Bears face the prospect of losing two more starters, including quarterback Jim Miller.
Miller was scheduled for an MRI on his left knee Tuesday; right guard Chris Villarrial was to be checked out for back spasms; and running back Anthony Thomas (finger) and tight end Dustin Lyman (knee) officially were put on injured reserve.
Miller and Villarrial were forced out of Monday night's 27-9 loss to the Miami Dolphins.
Miller, already bothered by shoulder and elbow tendinitis, completed only three of 12 passes for 9 yards before he was knocked out in the third quarter.
Backup Chris Chandler, expected to start Sunday against the Jets at Champaign, Ill., relieved Miller and hit 7-of-17. But with Chandler at the helm, the Bears made three straight turnovers - a fumble and two interceptions.
REDSKINS: Defensive coordinator Marvin Lewis said Tuesday he still hasn't decided whether to take the head coaching job at Michigan State.
Lewis interviewed with Michigan State officials Monday.
BILLS: Defensive tackle Tyrone Robertson was suspended for one year by the NFL on Tuesday for violating the league's substance abuse policy for the second time this season.
Robertson, Buffalo's seventh-round pick in last year's draft, served a four-game suspension from Oct.2-28. His most recent suspension begins immediately.
STEELERS: Bill Cowher won't bench Tommy Maddox despite one of the most peculiar days ever by an NFL quarterback during the Steelers' baffling 24-6 loss Sunday to Houston. Maddox effectively drove the offense to a 422-yard day, only to hand the Texans' defense three touchdowns with two interceptions and a fumble.
But Cowher made it clear Maddox won't stay on the field against Carolina (5-8) if he keeps turning the ball over. The Steelers (7-5-1) have eight turnovers in Maddox's last two starts and are 0-2-1 in his last three starts.
"How do you explain Tommy running and the ball falls out of his hands ... the ball falling out of Antwaan Randle El's hands?" Cowher said. "I'm not going to tolerate a continuing of that, and they understand that."
Maddox will start Sunday but hasn't been assured he will finish. Kordell Stewart won his two most recent starts while replacing an injured Maddox.
