PHILADELPHIA - Eagles quarterback Donovan McNabb probably will miss the rest of the regular season and could be out of the playoffs, too, because of a broken right ankle.

"I'm looking at it like we don't have Donovan this season and we move on," Philadelphia coach Andy Reid said Monday.

McNabb was injured on the third play of Sunday's game against Arizona, but he stayed in and threw a career-best four touchdown passes to lead the Eagles past the Cardinals 38-14.

Philadelphia (7-3) has six games left, and holds a one-game lead over the New York Giants in the NFC East. McNabb, a two-time Pro Bowler, could possibly return for the playoffs, but Reid said it's too early to set a definite timetable.

"It's somewhere in the six-to-eight week area, but that has to be determined," Reid said.

McNabb, his family and the Eagles' medical staff are considering options that include surgery or having his ankle placed in a cast. Reid expects a decision to be made in the next day or so.

BRONCOS: Quarterback Brian Griese's sprained left knee will keep him out of Denver's lineup against the Indianapolis Colts and could sideline him for three weeks.

Broncos coach Mike Shanahan said Griese will not practice this week after being injured in a 31-9 victory over the Seattle Seahawks on Sunday. Denver initially said Griese could be out up to a month but lowered the estimate after an MRI exam showed a second-degree sprain of the medial collateral ligament.

Steve Beuerlein, who threw two fourth-quarter touchdown passes in relief of Griese, will start against the Colts on Sunday night.

BUCS: Cornerback Ronde Barber had surgery on his broken left thumb and is questionable for this week's game against the Green Bay Packers. Barber was injured during the third quarter of Sunday's 23-10 victory over the Carolina Panthers, but he didn't leave the game.

COLTS: Running back Edgerrin James has a sprained right ankle but is expected to play at Denver.

James was injured late in Sunday's 20-3 victory over the Dallas Cowboys. He ran for 106 yards on 24 carries after missing two games with hamstring and rib injuries.

LIONS: Receiver Az-Zahir Hakim will not need surgery for his season-ending hip injury.

PANTHERS: Rodney Peete's four turnovers against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers won't cost him his job as starting quarterback.

Carolina coach John Fox said he plans to stick with Peete on Sunday against the Atlanta Falcons.

"At this point, I still think we're going to do what gives us the best chance to win and Rodney Peete will be our starting quarterback against Atlanta," Fox said.

Peete had three interceptions and a fumble in Sunday's 23-10 loss to the Buccaneers.

REDSKINS: Washington coach Steve Spurrier is changing starting quarterbacks for the fourth time this season, but he isn't saying who the new one will be.

Danny Wuerffel or rookie Patrick Ramsey will start Sunday against the St. Louis Rams.

"We'll get both guys ready to play, and we'll make some announcement later in the week who's going to start the game," Spurrier said.

Spurrier is benching Shane Matthews for the second time.

SAINTS: Running back Deuce McAllister is questionable for this weekend's game against the Cleveland Browns because of a sprained right ankle. McAllister, the NFC's leading rusher, was injured Sunday against the Falcons.

TITANS: Tennessee defensive end Jevon Kearse could play this weekend against the Baltimore Ravens for the first time since breaking his left foot in the season opener. He practiced last Friday for the first time since the injury.

"I feel probably more optimistic today about Jevon than I have since the injury as far as the opportunity to play," coach Jeff Fisher said.
