McNabb's numbers down

The Associated Press

PHILADELPHIA - Donovan McNabb hasn't been the same quarterback since he signed the richest contract in NFL history.

McNabb has struggled in the six games since the Philadelphia Eagles gave him a $115 million, 12-year contract extension after Week 3.

McNabb, a two-time Pro Bowl selection, completed 68 of 111 passes (61.3 percent) for 791 yards, eight TDs and two interceptions in the first three games. He also ran for 118 yards and two TDs. Since then, he is 123-for-225 (54.6 percent) for 1,243 yards, five TDs and three interceptions and has 342 yards rushing and four TDs on the ground.

Three of his combined nine TDs in the last six games have come after the outcome was decided. His average yards passing per game is down from 264 to 207, and his quarterback rating of 81.4 is 21st in the league.

Still, Eagles coach Andy Reid doesn't see a problem with his star player.

"You've got to give credit to the defense, and then I've got to take some of the blame on that," Reid said. "I've got to do a better job of getting him the plays so people can get open and not have to make all the tight throws that he makes."

REDSKINS: Wide receiver Jacquez Green, who earlier this season expressed concern over his lack of playing time, was waived.

Washington promoted receiver Justin Skaggs from the practice squad. Skaggs will get a chance to take over Green's duties as punt returner.

COLTS: Owner Jim Irsay said he was dependent on prescription painkillers but overcame the problem since undergoing treatment over the summer. Irsay, 43, issued a statement in response to a report by Indianapolis television station WTHR, which said Irsay has a history of substance abuse since 1995 that includes at least three overdoses of prescription drugs and treatment at clinics in Indiana and Arizona.

RAIDERS: Defensive end Tony Bryant will miss four to six weeks because of a neck injury suffered two weeks ago against San Francisco. He has 21/2 sacks and 24 tackles this season.

CHARGERS: Return specialist Tamarick Vanover was cut after averaging 5.4 yards per return on punts and 23.1 yards on kickoffs.

GIANTS: New York agreed to contract terms with Herman Moore, Detroit's all-time leading receiver. Moore, 33, will be paid $308,824 to finish the season.

DOLPHINS: Quarterback Jay Fiedler had the cast removed from his broken right thumb and it was placed in a splint. He probably will miss two more games, coach Dave Wannstedt said.
