Browns-Bengals: Bad vs. worse

By Mark Curnutte
The Cincinnati Enquirer

Sunday's Bengals-Browns game brings together the two NFL teams with the worst records since the start of the 1999 season.

The Bengals are the worst, at 15-42. The Browns, who began that season as an expansion team, are 16-41.

The Carolina Panthers, who came into the NFL in 1995, are third-worst at 19-38.

WELCOME BACK: The Bengals on Tuesday signed former UC cornerback LaVar Glover to a two-year contract to fill the remaining spot on the 53-man active roster.

Glover was on the Bengals' practice squad at the start of the season but was released and had been on Detroit's practice squad since Nov.5.

Glover fills the roster spot and a vacancy at cornerback resulting from the season-ending knee injury to Bo Jennings.

MORE BLAKE: On Dec.1 at Paul Brown Stadium, the Bengals will play the Baltimore Ravens for the second time in a four-game stretch.

Cincinnati fans will have the chance to see Jeff Blake play. Ravens coach Brian Billick announced this week that Blake will start the next three games while injured No.1 Chris Redman heals from back and nerve injuries.

The Bengals lost 38-27 at Baltimore on Sunday, in the third start for Blake, a former Bengals quarterback.

Blake is 59-for-101 passing for 710 yards and three touchdowns. He has a 1-2 record as Baltimore's starter and has thrown four interceptions with two fumbles.

Blake, who played from 1994-99 for the Bengals, has impressed Billick, who said he considers Blake to be a "young 31." Billick also said that Blake, who is playing with a one-year contract for Baltimore, is the type of player who could be the Ravens' quarterback for the next four or five years.
