NFL injury report

Rams expect Faulk to play next week

The Associated Press

St. Louis running back Marshall Faulk sprained his left ankle in the Rams' 28-24 win over the San Diego Chargers on Sunday, but the injury shouldn't force him to miss any games.

Faulk, who was held to 72 total yards, was injured in the fourth quarter. He also missed time in the second half with a tendon problem in his right foot, but after the game he said he felt good.

Faulk said he didn't know how he was injured.

"I don't know what happened, to tell you the truth," Faulk said. "It happened so fast."

Backup Lamar Gordon finished the game, but the Rams anticipate Faulk being at full strength for next Monday's game against the Chicago Bears. Coach Mike Martz said Faulk had a mild high-ankle sprain.

Giants wide receiver Tim Carter tore his Achilles' tendon against Minnesota and is out for the season. He tripped while running a route next to the covered-up pitcher's mound and fell to the turf.

Chicago quarterback Chris Chandler sprained his neck in the second quarter and left the Bears' game against New England.

Chandler, starting the game in place of injured Jim Miller, was hurt as he surged ahead on a fourth-and-1 play from the Bears 41, picking up the first down.

Chandler stayed down on the field for a couple of minutes and then walked slowly to the bench, where he stayed briefly before moving to a medical van behind the end zone. He had a collar on after the game and said he should feel better in a couple of days.

Miller, who has a sore elbow, came in to replace Chandler.

Green Bay running backs Ahman Green (mild concussion) and Najeh Davenport (sprained ankle) left the Packers' game against the Lions.

Green had 12 carries for 50 yards and didn't play after halftime. Davenport gained 73 yards on 10 carries before getting hurt in the third quarter. Coach Mike Sherman hopes to have both available next week.

Chargers backup linebacker Carlos Polk was carted off with a sprained ankle in the third quarter of their game against St. Louis.

Titans tight end Frank Wycheck was hit on the second possession of the game against Houston and didn't return because of a concussion. It was his third game wearing a new helmet designed to protect against concussions.

Redskins receiver Jacquez Green missed the entire game except for one play - the first interception by Shane Matthews, in which Green's right leg was caught by a cleat. He had a deep gash below the knee and never returned.

Also, Jaguars defensive tackle John Henderson left in the first half with a concussion.
