Bengals receivers come up huge

Unit totals 236 yards, four TDs

By Mark Curnutte
The Cincinnati Enquirer

HOUSTON - Bengals fullback Lorenzo Neal stood at his locker after Sunday's 38-3 victory over the Houston Texans and shouted to a group of teammates, "Hey, receivers, you guys showed up today."

Including tight end Matt Schobel, who had a career-high four receptions for 41 yards, the Bengals' non-backfield receivers had 19 receptions for 236 yards and four touchdowns.

Their average gain per catch was 12.4 yards.

Peter Warrick led Bengals receivers with seven receptions for 86 yards.

Michael Westbrook, who had four catches for 41 yards before Sunday's game, had two receptions against the Texans - both for touchdowns, from 26 and 12 yards. He left the locker room before reporters were let in.

Warrick's touchdown reception was for 33 yards, and he displayed several slick moves on the run after the catch.

"That's the Peter Warrick I know," Warrick said. "I just wanted to win."

Bengals quarterback Jon Kitna, who threw four TD passes and no interceptions, said the overall play of the receiving corps has opened up more room for Warrick.

"Peter is never out of the offense," Kitna said. "They might do some things to try to take him away. Now you're starting to see Chad (Johnson).

"You've got Westbrook out there. The tight end is starting to make plays. They can't play as much attention to Peter as they have in the past."
