Favre plans to play despite sprained knee
The Associated Press
GREEN BAY, Wis. - Brett Favre said he won't play against Miami on Monday night just to keep alive his decade-long streak of starts.
"I want to play and help this team win. If I can't go out there and do that, I'm not going to," Favre said Wednesday.
That doesn't mean Favre anticipates seeing his NFL-record 164-game starting streak come to an end because of a sprained left knee.
Although he's listed as questionable on the injury report, Favre said he has every intention of playing Monday night, just as he has in all of Green Bay's games since Sept.13, 1992.
"I want to play, expect to play, expect if I do play to not play any differently," the three-time MVP said.
Favre tested his new knee brace in limited practice work Wednesday, when he threw passes for the first time since he was sacked by Washington linebacker LaVar Arrington on Oct.20.
TITANS: Running back Eddie George was held out of the final portion of practice Wednesday after suffering a mild knee sprain but is not expected to miss the Titans' game Sunday at Indianapolis.
COLTS: Edgerrin James could miss Sunday's game because of a partially torn right hamstring. Coach Tony Dungy said James would not practice this week so he could rest.
SEAHAWKS: Coach Mike Holmgren indicated Wednesday that the seizure Darrell Jackson had during Sunday's game in Dallas was more serious than initially thought.
Holmgren said the wide receiver "almost died" because of the seizure.
A team spokesman clarified the remark, saying Jackson wasn't in immediate danger of dying, because his heart was beating and he continued to breathe. The spokesman said Holmgren meant to convey that Jackson could have died.
Asked if he had reconsidered the potential danger to his health and career, Jackson said it comes with the territory.
"I haven't even second-guessed it," Jackson said. "This is the game of football, and things like this happen."
