Bears' Terrell lost two months to broken foot

Wide receiver was expecting breakout year

The Associated Press

LAKE FOREST, Ill. - Chicago Bears wide receiver David Terrell will have plenty of time to choreograph some new end-zone moves.

Terrell will be out two months after having surgery Thursday to repair a broken bone in his right foot. Doctors inserted a screw in the foot, and Bears coach Dick Jauron said there were no problems with the surgery.

"We anticipate it will be seven to eight weeks," Jauron said. "He'll be monitored obviously through the whole rehab. If he heals significantly faster, maybe we'll get him back sooner."

If not, Terrell won't be back on the field until Nov.24 or Dec.1.

That's a lot of time for a second-year player to miss, especially when the flamboyant receiver was just starting to hit his stride. The Bears' top pick in the 2001 draft has nine catches for 127 yards this year, three for touchdowns.

He had his best game Monday, catching three passes for 77 yards in a 34-21 loss to the Green Bay Packers.

"David, and we started talking about this in training camp, really has a terrific attitude. He really was improved over last year and kept improving," Jauron said. "He was really coming on, I felt. So it's unfortunate that it happened. Will it set him back? It's never good to miss. It'll hurt him. It'll hurt us a little bit, but we'll go on."

BROWNS: Safety Robert Griffith will be sidelined four to six weeks with a broken bone in his right shoulder, the latest blow to a defensive backfield that could be missing three starters Sunday against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Cornerback Corey Fuller and safety Devin Bush also are nursing injuries for the Browns.

COLTS: Indianapolis sold the remaining tickets to Sunday's game against the Baltimore Ravens, avoiding its first local television blackout since 1998. NFL rules require games to be sold out 72 hours in advance to lift the blackout.

FALCONS: With Michael Vick unable to finish practice, coach Dan Reeves selected Doug Johnson as the starting quarterback for Atlanta's road game against the New York Giants on Sunday.

Vick was optimistic after receiving treatment on his sprained right shoulder, but the pain worsened in passing drills. He shut himself down after 45 minutes of the two-hour workout.

"It wasn't getting any better, so I just quit throwing," Vick said. "It was starting to feel less stiff as practice wore on, but it kind of got sore again."

TITANS: Defensive end Carlos Hall, Tennessee's first-round draft pick who replaced injured Jevon Kearse as a starter, is expected to miss three weeks after surgery on his right knee.
