Agent: Jackson would have come back

Former Bengals offensive tackle John Jackson probably would have come back to the team if asked, agent Richard Katz said Wednesday.

Due to Richmond Webb's season-ending pectoral injury Sunday, the Bengals signed rookie Reggie Coleman off Washington's practice squad Tuesday.

Coleman makes the rookie minimum salary of $225,000.

The Bengals released Jackson, 37, in training camp. He underwent an invasive heart examination to prove that results of a cardiovascular stress test were false.

Jackson, who has played 14 NFL seasons, would require a $750,000 minimum salary, but the salary cap hit would have been just $450,000.

He made five starts and played in 19 games for the Bengals in 2000 and 2001. Jackson shut down Tennessee defensive end Jevon Kearse in the second half of last year's season finale.

Rookie Levi Jones will start at left tackle Sunday in place of Webb. Victor Leyva and Scott Rehberg will be the backup tackles Sunday.
