Armour et al: Put a lick on Vick
Atlanta Falcons quarterback Michael Vick is one of the most exciting players in the game. But the Bengals can't stand around and watch him. They have to hit him often and hit him hard.
Shadowing responsibilities, or playing the spy, probably will alternate between strong safety JoJuan Armour and linebacker Adrian Ross.
Armour is a smart player who plays the run well. If Vick takes off running - and he will; he is the Falcons' leading rusher in the past four games - Armour should be waiting.
Vick has a 6.7-yard average on 19 runs. He accused Bears defensive coordinator Greg Blache of telling his players to go after Vick's knees. Blache denied it but said if Vick is going to run, he's going to get hit.
The dude wants to run, and he wants people to dance with him, Blache said. I said, "Don't dance with him; cut him.'
The Bengals should follow that advice. But Vick is tough.
I kind of want to put him in the class with Brett Favre, how he sits and takes hits all the time, and he gets up and he's right back in there, Bengals linebacker Takeo Spikes said. I saw him take a couple of hits where I thought he'd sit out a play or so. That's what we have to do.
