Webb regrouping after 3-sack game

Will get start vs. Atlanta

By Mark Curnutte, mcurnutte@enquirer.com
The Cincinnati Enquirer

In spite of a three-sack game Sunday at Cleveland, veteran left tackle Richmond Webb will start against Atlanta.

“I know that Richmond will bounce back,” coach Dick LeBeau said. “A lot of those things are stunts, a lot of those are mitigated circumstances.”

LeBeau also said the team is grooming first-round draft choice Levi Jones and will get Jones as much playing time as possible.

The Bengals have given up nine sacks in two games.

“I could have had a little bit better game in the pass protection,” Webb said. “I didn't play as well as I should have.”

NO RUNNING: Other than defensive backs, players did not run sprints at the end of Wednesday's practice. Several players were assigned to lift weights.

LIGHT IT UP: LeBeau was full of stats at his Wednesday news conference. Here's one he had for his offense, which has scored 13 points in two games.

“We're going to score 23 points a game because, in the last three years, that is what the average playoff team has scored per game,” he said. “We are not interested in a stat that won't put us at a playoff level. We're going to score 23 a game.”

INJURY REPORT: Questionable for Sunday night are running back Brandon Bennett (ankle) and defensive ends Vaughn Booker (knee) and Eric Ogbogu (calf). Probable are safety Cory Hall (thumb), wide receiver T.J. Houshmandzadeh (groin), linebacker Takeo Spikes (chest), wide receiver Peter Warrick (shin) and defensive end Bernard Whittington (foot). Warrick did not practice Wednesday.

LeBeau stopped short of saying Houshmandzadeh, who has been the team's best receiver, would start.

TV TIME: In addition to the ESPN broadcast, WCPO-Channel 9 will air Sunday night's game from Atlanta live. Kickoff is 8:30 p.m.
