Glenn eager to play first game as Packer

The Associated Press

GREEN BAY, Wis. - Terry Glenn, who has lived up to the good and bad aspects of his reputation, hopes to make his Green Bay debut tonight when the Packers play the Cleveland Browns.

The wide receiver has been sidelined by a sprained left knee, but he participated in the Packers' Sunday walkthrough. He also ran routes for several minutes, with quarterback Craig Nall throwing him short passes.

“I did a lot of running today, so we'll see tomorrow if it swells up or anything,” Glenn said. “But it's a game-time decision.”

Packers coach and general manager Mike Sherman acquired Glenn from the New England Patriots in the offseason hoping the talented but troubled player could revive his own career as well as Green Bay's passing attack.

Glenn, who hyperextended his right knee the first week of camp, sprained his left knee Aug.7 when his leg buckled underneath him. The former Ohio State standout missed the Packers' first two exhibition games.

BUCS: Jerry Wunsch, a starter on Tampa Bay's offensive line the past three seasons, was among 13 players cut. Wunsch was a second-round draft pick in 1997 and started 45 consecutive games at right tackle after taking over the job in the fourth week of the 1999 season.

CHIEFS: Kansas City free safety Jerome Woods broke his right leg in Saturday night's exhibition loss to Seattle and will miss the entire season. Chiefs coach Dick Vermeil said Jason Belser will take over for Woods as the starter.

STEELERS: Wide receiver Hines Ward is out of a Pittsburgh hospital after having an appendectomy.

Ward was taken to UPMC-Presbyterian hospital Friday after experiencing pain before the Steelers' flight to Detroit for Saturday's game. Ward's appendix was removed shortly after he arrived.
