GEORGETOWN, Ky. Gus Frerotte will start at quarterback in the Bengals' second preseason game, Saturday night at Indianapolis. A decision on the regular-season starter could come as early as Monday.
Before training camp, Bengals coach Dick LeBeau said Kitna and Frerotte would get starts in the first two preseason games.
Whoever gets the nod, team president Mike Brown said he is pleased.
They give us the best quarterbacking we've had here for a few years, Brown said Monday. I don't know how it's going to work out, or even if it's going to work out definitively by the start of the season.
It could be it changes as the season goes on, for different reasons. One could get hurt. One could not play well. All kinds of things could happen. I'm just glad we have both of them, and I like what I see them doing.
CUT: The Bengals terminated the contract of defensive end Jevon Langford, their fourth-round draft pick in 1996.
In six seasons, Langford played 66 games and started 14. He played in three games last season, spending 13 games on the inactive list.
Langford had 3.5 career sacks but none in the past three years. He reported late to training camp this year and was overweight when he arrived.
OUCH: Running back Corey Dillon had a tooth pulled Monday morning and will return to practice today.
INJURY REPORT: The following Bengals are out for the Indianapolis game: linebacker Takeo Spikes (chest), receiver Michael Westbrook (wrist), receiver Danny Farmer (hamstring) and cornerback Artrell Hawkins (knee).
Farmer and Hawkins returned to practice Monday.
Doubtful are wide receiver T.J. Houshmandzadeh (ankle) and linebacker Steve Foley (groin). Foley aggravated his injury and will have an MRI.
Questionable are linebacker Armegis Spearman (left hip flexor strain), cornerback Robert Bean (left foot), running back Brandon Bennett (right foot) and defensive lineman Eric Ogbogu (calf).
Wide receiver Ron Dugans, who didn't finish practice Monday because of tendinitis in his left heel, is probable.
