Bengals offer deal to Westbrook
By Gary Estwick gestwick@enquirer.com

The Bengals extended an offer to free agent Michael Westbrook one day after the former Washington Redskins receiver worked out at the team's practice facility.
Details of the offer were not disclosed. As of Tuesday evening, Westbrook's agent, Steve Zucker, had not made a counteroffer. Duke Tobin, co-director of player personnel, is negotiating for the Bengals.
Earlier Tuesday, Tobin said there is interest on both sides.
It all comes down to money, Tobin said. We're trying to find a deal that we both can be happy with. If we do that, we'll come to an agreement. If not, then we won't.
Both Tobin and Zucker said no timetable has been set.
Westbrook, who turns 30 in July, is seeking a multiyear deal. He also has shown interest in Jacksonville, which released receiver Keenan McCardell last week, but the Bengals are the only team he has visited this offseason.
Michael really liked his visit, Zucker said. But it all depends on what develops.
Earlier in the offseason, Westbrook rejected an undisclosed offer from the Redskins.
He has played seven seasons in the NFL, all with Washington. But Westbrook never played with a regular quarterback, as the Redskins juggled starters.
Westbrook's best season was in 1999, when he posted career highs in catches (65), receiving yards (1,191) yards per catch (18.3) and touchdowns (nine).
Last season, Westbrook led the Redskins with 57 catches.
Said Tobin: He would make us a stronger offense.
