Frerotte happy in stripes

Four weeks ago today, Gus Frerotte signed a one-year contract with the Bengals, and the veteran quarterback said Tuesday that his first month with the team has been successful.
Frerotte signed in time to report May3 for the Bengals' three-day minicamp. He has been a regular at the 11 voluntary workouts held so far.
It was very productive. I learned a lot, said Frerotte, who will compete with Jon Kitna for the starting position at training camp. We were putting new things in every day. You get some overlap.
Frerotte and Kitna ended Tuesday's workout by throwing a dozen passes each at a garbage can 44 yards downfield. Kitna sank one. Frerotte hit the can on the bounce a couple of times.
In coordinator Bob Bratkowski's offense, the quarterback calls the pass protection.
I've still got to think a little bit there, Frerotte said. Some of them get hairy. Some protections are easier. We've got to point them out.
