Football Hall is honored
Canton gets special recognition as Ohio bicentennial approaches
The Associated Press
CANTON, Ohio The home of the Pro Football Hall of Fame received special recognition Saturday as Ohio approaches its bicentennial year in 2003.
A plaque was unveiled outside the hall of fame designating Canton as The Cradle of Professional Football.
Hall of Famers Len Dawson and Dan Dierdorf, both products of the Canton area, attended the event as a bicentennial bronze bell was cast. A bell will be cast in each of Ohio's 88 counties.
In 1920, a meeting was held in a Canton auto showroom and led to the formation of the American Professional Football Conference. It was renamed the National Football League in 1922.
