Scott healed, expected back Monday

By Mark Curnutte mcurnutte@enquirer.com
The Cincinnati Enquirer

Darnay Scott is at home in St. Louis working with his personal trainer and is expected to return to Cincinnati on Monday for the Bengals' final eight voluntary veteran workouts.

The wide receiver did not participate in the team's May3-6 minicamp because of recurring pain in his left leg, which he broke in training camp in August 2000.

Scott was given two weeks from the end of minicamp to rehab his leg. But he talked with Bengals wide receivers coach Steve Mooshagian over the weekend and said he was running again.

“He's not having any pain, and he has been doing his work in St.Louis,” Mooshagian said Wednesday. “It wasn't anything intentional, where he said: "I'm not coming. I don't want to be there.' The medical staff has to check him out and clear him.”

Scott, a ninth-year pro, is the oldest member of the six-player Bengals wide receiver corps. The other five — Peter Warrick, Ron Dugans, Danny Farmer, T.J. Houshmandzadeh and Chad Johnson — are attending workouts.

“What's happened is, every receiver of the six has started a game and played significantly, and all of them feel they can contribute,” Mooshagian said. “Peter said it best the other day: "It doesn't matter who starts, because we're all going to play and contribute.'”
