Jets sign free agent cornerback Abraham

Colerain's White signs with Bucs

The Associated Press

NEW YORK — The New York Jets agreed to terms with former Tampa Bay cornerback Donnie Abraham on Monday, yet another addition to a rebuilt defense.

Abraham, a third-round draft pick out of East Tennessee in 1996, was second on the Buccaneers with six interceptions last season. His 31 career interceptions are a team record, but Tampa Bay released him for salary-cap reasons.

The Jets lost last year's starting cornerbacks, Aaron Glenn and Marcus Coleman, to Houston in the expansion draft.

New York signed free agent Aaron Beasley from the Jacksonville Jaguars, and veteran Ray Mickens also figures to contend for a starting job.

BILLS: In his first comments since Sunday's trade to Buffalo, quarterback Drew Bledsoe said he had come to respect the Bills playing against them twice a year.

“I could not be more enthusiastic about jumping into the next phase of my career, and contributing to the success of the Buffalo Bills,” he said in a statement.

Bledsoe might be the Bills' most high-profile addition, but he's far from the only one.

Under general manager Tom Donahoe, the Bills have spent the past six weeks bolstering a young but promising team with eight free agents — including linebacker London Fletcher and offensive lineman Trey Teague — and 10 draft picks, led by offensive tackle Mike Williams.

“I'm really excited about it,” receiver Eric Moulds said. “I feel like we're a legit contender.”

MORE LOCALS: Kentucky linebacker Jamal White, a Colerain grad, has agreed to contract terms with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. White, a 6-foot-3, 223-pounder, was a three-year letterman.
