Hawkins was moving about like the Tin Man in the Bengals' locker room. He could've used a tub of axle-grease. He could hardly move his left shoulder. Even trying to put on his dress pants was an agonizing chore.
But Hawkins wasn't sure of the nature of the injury.
I'm going to get an MRI on it, he said.
Does he think it's separated?
I hope not, he said. It's really sore, stiff, can't move it.
If Hawkins is out for the finale, he'll be missed.
His second interception was a jump-ball. But the first one was impressive. The Bengals were in what is known as fire-zone coverage on 3rd-and-5, and Hawkins was playing seam technique. Two Steelers' receivers came at him in a stack formation, one behind the other.
Hawkins sat on the out-route and when the receiver broke, Hawkins broke, too.
I caught the ball, that's the big thing, Hawkins said.
